Endemic Invertebrate Animals List

Florida’s peninsular geography, combined with its distinctive geological history and climate, contribute not only to habitat diversity but also to an amazing array of over 15,000 terrestrial and freshwater invertebrates, including approximately 12,500 insects.  More than 1500 endemic invertebrates occur in Florida and occupy a wide variety of microhabitats within aquatic, terrestrial and subterranean habitats.

This list of 183 endemic invertebrates that have been identified as being of conservation concern includes the global and state rank for each, followed by its designated federal and state legal status. For a detailed description of species rank codes visit the Species Rank Explanations page.
